Hi BPS team, I have heard you guys mention before that a lot of attacks now are targeted at the servers themselves, which is why a tool like the ARQ in BPS Pro is so valuable.

I was wondering if you guys might be able to voice your opinion about whether or not it might be beneficial security wise (in addition to using BPS) to switch from a typical shared hosting platform like Host Gator to a managed server like WP Engine?

I’m not technical enough to really understand all that they do differently, but WP Engine and other managed hosts are supposed to be more secure, faster etc. What do you think?

    Thanks.

The benefit of having a Dedicated Server from a security standpoint is that you are not sharing that Server with anyone else so you would not have to be concerned about cross site infection/hacking. ie one compromised site affecting other sites on the Shared Server.

If your FTP password is hacked/cracked then it would not matter whether you had Shared, VPS or Dedicated hosting – the site would be compromised.

If you are using ARQ on Shared Hosting then any malicious files used in cross site infection/hacking or files uploaded via FTP are automatically quarantined and you would receive an email notification that a file had been quarantined.

If you are using ARQ on Dedicated Hosting then any files uploaded via FTP are automatically quarantined and you would receive an email notification that a file had been quarantined.
