Share Content – External Links Generate Excerpt Thumbnail

    Is there a plugin out there that allows you to insert a link from any site and then it generates a thumbnail and excerpt. Just how when you insert a link on Facebook or LinkedIn, the thumbnail from the source and an excerpt of the post/article generates.

    I’m developing a community-based (private) website, via Buddypress, and I want users to be able to share links to interesting articles but I don’t want it to be just a link. It would look weird and tacky. I was going to make an option to upload a PDF but I’d much rather have the Facebook/LinkedIn style of sharing external links.

    Anyone have any ideas? I’ve searched high and low…

    I have yet to see a plugin with that kind of feature, although have seen some commercial seens with similar features, to add content from the Frontend by URL or Pinning like Pinterest.

    I am looking for the same thing! Mura CMS has something similar called IT Content. and I have a client that uses that now but I am making BuddyPress site for community for them and would love to be able to keep that function.

    I just found this.. it seems like it could work

    I have it. running on test site and it was working fine. I woulnd’t mind an admin approve links Submitted.

    I’m not coder so I dont know where or jow to modify things. But I do like to try.
