Opacity-on-hover and the gridiculous grid. Please help!!

Hi, I’m having trouble combining 5 into a grid, each one of which have an image overlayed onto them with mouse-hover.

As you can see, these images mess up the grid system applied in the gridiculous theme body. They break the footer of the theme, and they ruin the responsiveness of the site (they no longer collapse for small screens).
