   Hi - Looking for recommendations for a template that is less like a blog and more like a standard web page with perhaps static text area on the index page and an RSS box in a sidebar showing latest blog posts.

   Does such a beast exist or should I consider designing it?

   http://themes.wordpress.net
   then you may want to make your own.
