The origin theme is not even close to looking like the sample. I’m a newby, so I need a little gentle guidance. How do I size photos. They are currently way too small. You can view my blog at: http://saultman.com/blog

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Could you check your thumbnail image size under Settings > Media
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Media_Screen

See if Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions is checked or not ?

Checked or not. No change. I wish to make the header image bigger too. How do I select large medium or thumbnail to be applied to a page?

    Dan

Hi Dan, so had it been checked or not ?

    (@dan-saultman)

It had not been checked. I then checked it. But there was no evident change.

    Dan

    It had not been checked.

This is good, so we know the reason why not all the thumbnails in the archive template are 150×150 exact.

See only your first post has the correct thumbnail size and the other 4 posts don’t, because WP cropped them based on the proportion of the images, from now on it will be cropped to be exact, because that option is now checked.

    Keep it checked.

You have to delete and re-upload images that don’t have correct size, because WP crops images upon upload only. Instead of manually delete and re-upload, you could use this plugin to help regenerate thumbnails.

Thumbnail sizing Success!! Thank you. The plugin worked perfectly and saved a lot of time.

Is there something negative that can happen if I don’t check the box?

I had a featured image on my blog page and it was cut cropped and the top was cut off. I unchecked the box on thumnails in my media settings and loaded a new image (same image once again) and the size was perfect, no cropping.

That accomplished what I wanted this time, but how might this affect me in the future with other image uploads?

    Thanks,

Without crop, the image will be resized base on one side only, depending whether the width or height is bigger. This will result in not square image, IF the initial image is not.

..and loaded a new image ..and the size was perfect, no cropping.

When the settings changed, it only affect the newly upload. So from that I can only assume the initial image is square, or the image is not square but almost, or the image is not square but the CSS of the theme forces it to be square ( looks squeezed ).

That accomplished what I wanted this time, but how might this affect me in the future with other image uploads?

Each theme is different. To find out more, please open a new ticket for this and link to your site too. I’m sure someone will be able to provide more details specific to your site.

Post it under How to and Troubleshooting

Thank you very much. I’ll do that.

I am having the same problem as Danilow except I do not have the “Crop thumbnails to exact dimension” option, i went into Media>Images and the only options showing for me is Thumbnail, Media, and Large with dimension boxes underneath

You can see the issue here http://www.aaelblog.com

btw, your logo should be saved as png so that it won’t get blurry from jpg artifact.

    Hi
I am super new blogger and recently upgraded my wordpress.
Now I’m using Origin and have trouble- getting the photos to size correctly for the “featured image” box. Its either too big or too small, and I spent hours trying everything I can think of but still didn’t work.

For the logo part- it also appears very small and almost not so clear.

Photo arrangement- Is all over the place in my post and I have changed settings to “gallery” but still the photos are arranged at random and have lots of gaps in between.

If anyone can give me some tips, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I’m having the same problem. For some reason my first post doesn’t comes with featured image. Can someone help me solve this problem. thx

Here’s a question: The size and dimensions of my pictures are just fine in my post, however, if you click on a picture to get a bigger image, you get this: http://www.yourhikeguide.com/delicate-arch/dsc_1360/ … A super tiny picture.

You then have to click on the tiny picture to get it bigger. Is there any way to have the bigger image displayed when one clicks on a picture in the blog the first time? Does that make sense? Any advice out there on how to fix this?

You may tray changing the link of pictures… (you have 2 or 3 options to choose from)
It looks like you are using the “attachment” link…
