I thought this was OK in early testing, but …

Situation is with a large number of existing hierarchical categories – most of which are not yet used. The described and expected behavior is that only those categories that have posts would be included in nav menus, with nested categories listed beneath upper levels.

However the plugin does not respect the hierarchy – a child from one category parent is listed in the nav menu under a different parent. (While the ‘category’ widget shows the correct relationship and only shows categories for which there are posts.)

(Site is under local development or I would post links.)

  • Hey! I’m back with a live site and the same problem. The categories represent national hierarchies (eg. North America > USA > Texas).

Each of the ‘continents’ represent the highest level of menu item, cascading to the nation & region/state.

However, not all of the subcategories (counties) end up under their parent categories (continents):

    • Australia is placed under Italy when they are peer subcategories under different parent categories.
    • Western Cape (Africa/South Africa/Western Cape) is placed under South America.

I’ve put up screencaps of the current menu structure here, and the category structure for Oceania/Australia/<state> here, Africa here.
