The topic title says it all.

Hoping someone can inspire some hope in me that the paid version would do anything better than nothing at all, if I need to purchase it to transfer this site’s db contents out of TextPattern to WordPress.

    File: localhost.csv
    Size: 131MB

Any advice? Need more info? Please let me know.

  • Hi I’m currently having the same problem? Did you find a solution?

    Thanks

Sadly, no. :-/ I received a couple of snarky responses from moderators on a different forum post and the converting plugin has been completely abandoned with no known replacement. Their advice was to simply hire a developer.

I had better luck with the TextPattern forum people, but in the end had a WordPress developer proficient in siphoning out database information compile the blog data in a CSV format for me to import. Lost a bit of Category information, but overall got the info injected into WordPress as best as could be expected…. so, in a sense I ended up following the original advice, I guess.

    Good luck.

Your server needs php5-curl installed. Without this you will get white screen.

It is/was — when I used the “wordpressdotorg” based plugin to Export from Textpattern to WordPress (which is severely out of date), I didn’t get a white screen — all I got was “Your import is completed.” …but there was nothing imported whatsoever. Forum moderators at Textpattern’s Community Support: http://textpattern.com/support pointed me to a developer who wrote a script that did a better job. But, in the end, a WordPress developer with database experience worked the table into something that would read properly in a WordPress format — the only issue was Categories — that didn’t turn out assigned to Posts properly, but probably could have been fixed if there had been more time/money for the developer to work through that snag as well.

I get the same problem… It just loads on step two for a while, and then stops loading… I can import really small files and the plugin works great, but nothing over 1 mb…. All my settings appear to be correct, php5-curl is installed, I should be good to go. So why does it hang up on larger xml files?

My advice: ditch the plugin-based TextPattern-to-WordPress setup — it’s ancient and no one is updating/developing for it.
Therefore, connect with a person adept at manipulating databases (particularly WordPress-based), and have them format the data properly for you. It took a friend of mine about 2.5 hours to get the entire TextPattern db in a place that (mostly) migrated to a new WordPress setup.
    Good luck!

on my hostgator accounts I have no problems. on godaddy its a nightmare. I don’t think its the plugin. They did help me get it limping along. I will be moving soon from godaddy

Hey! I’ve had the same problem with white screen and I’ve decided to write about my solution here – maybe it’ll help somebody.

First of all I’ve connected with support of the plugin and I’ve recieved the following answer:

“I recommend looking your server’s error_log file or contacting your web hosting provider to find out what error is happening when continuing on from Step 1”

So I’ve contacted to my hoster and he switched on some server options related to xml, something like xml reader or xml writer, I don’t know exactly. Here is the screenshot of my php options (plugin works properly with them) – http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/268/jwzk.jpg

    That’s all. Good luck!
