wp_system files on WP install

    I’ve been seeing a very persistent set of files on a clients site, hosted by Dreamhost.

    /wp-content/uploads/wp_system
    ( Sometimes stashed inside of date folders as well, such as /2007/ )

    Within this folder are two files.
    system.dat
    wp_system.php

    I’m having a hard time finding any data on this, so I thought I’d start the thread. Does anyone know where these are coming from?
    How to stop?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    They’re not coming from WordPress. Have you asked the hosts if they know anything about these files? Some hosts do add their own files if the original install used a 1-click installer. In the meantime, proceeding as though the site has been hacked is a very wise precaution, in my opinion.
