[Solution] Comparing old/new files (1 post)

I'm using GoLive CS2 for uploading files. In general GoLive is a good program, but I've found updating a site with new WordPress files can be a hit-or-miss proposition.

Recently after updating one site the site appeared to be working, but when I went to make a new entry there were several error reports. After trying to figure out what went wrong in the upgrade I decided to again upload all of the WP files to be certain that GoLive timed out on some files.

Sure enough, when the files were reloaded WP worked find.

In my original attempt to diagnose the problem I came across a post that asked if there was a way to compare WP updated files with the previous version's files. That got me to thinking. A client some months ago purchased for me a program to upload files to his secure server. One of the features of the program was its ability to sync server files with a local directory.

After reinstalling the program I found that it did a great job of comparing files and tagged those files that needed to be upload. Also, in the past I found that if for some reason the upload timed out this program would re-establish the connection and notify the user as to what is happening.

I'm only a user of the program and have zero financial (or otherwise) involvement with the company.
