Unable to to update plugins

    Getting the following error message for any plugin update …

    Plugin update failed.
    An error occurred while updating Contact Form 7: The package could not be installed. The plugin contains no files..

    It was working fine about a week ago, and then suddenly it started doing this. I have not made any significant changes to WP.

    You could try to update using ftp.

    OK I’ve figured it out. First, the two plugins which needed updating somehow got deactivated, but not by me. Second, if you try to update a deactivated plugin, you will get the error message I posted above, which is strange. You would think you could still update plugins, even though you’re not currently using them.

    Anyway, once I activated them, they updated without problem.
