    Hi there,

I’m wondering if there’s a way to choose what to watermark, and what not to?

For example: I upload quite a number of screenshots. These are perfectly fine to watermark but I also use a smaller format per post as the main image (featured image). This image is usually around 600 x 380 – but this is watermarked aswell. I’d ideally like to have my featured image clean, then the content watermrked.

My current settings look like this:

    Auto-Watermark = yes
Image sizes = large and fullsize

Even with these selective settings, it watermarks everything.

Maybe I’m missing something, but is there a way to exclude certain uploads from the watermark?

    Thanks,
    e

  • Hello,

What’s the example size of image you are uploading? There are two possibilities, why this is working as you wrote:
    – your original images are smaller than defined large or medium size, so there is no large or even medium image created and the fullsize image is used as a post image
    – your template uses a ‘large’ size as a featured image.
(please, check your media settings for an information about defined medium and large sizes)

Maybe you should uncheck the ‘large’ option for watermarking?

In general the plugin does work like you expect, with your settings it should watermark only large and fullsize image.

Hope something I wrote can help you resolve this issue, if not, please give me more information about your media settings (defined image sizes) and the template you are using.

Thank you for the reply. I figured it works the way I want it to, but obviously there’s some crossed wires.

    My media settings are the default (thumbnail 150 x 150, medium 300 x 300 and large 1024 x 1024).

I see what you mean that my featured image 600 x 300 might fit into one of those brackets,, but I’ve ran a few tests and nothing so far.

I’ve tried disabling all but full size, all but large, everything but large and it still watermarks all image.

Maybe wordpress thinks my featured is in fact a large image?

Maybe… Tell me, please, what theme are you using? The size used in post images is defined in theme files. Maybe your theme uses fullsize image?

    Hi there,

I’m using Magazine3’s Problog theme. Is there an easy way to tell what images are used for the theme?

Thanks so much for the help

    Hi,

I see that this theme uses the fullsize image as a post image… So the only way to not watermark your featured images is to manually watermark the ones that should be watermarked (you can use the bulk action on “media” page).
In the future version of this plugin I’ll create a possibility to decide whether to apply the watermark during uploading images, so you’ll be able to set ‘auto watermark’ to true and then manually turn it of when uploading your featured image.
So for now I can only encourage you to check for updates.

    Hi there,

Wow, thank you for the help again. I’ll keep it installed and keep an eye on it.

I’ll be sure to mention it to people I know will need it too.

    Take care,
    e
