• Hi,

I have been using the Manage Categories menu to add
sub-categories. I noticed that after entering the
info and clicking Add, nothing happened and I got
    no confirmation message.

After reading another thread about this, I entered
my WP admin without using the www prefix for my url.
The Category add worked in that mode.

Now, first of all, is there any risk to accessing
WP admin panel withou using the www?

What do I have to modify to be able to get back to
blog changes accessing it with the www prefix?

Please bear in mind I’m not an expert with cpanel
and am a newbie webmaster using Hostgator.
If possible give me step by step

    Many Thanks for Any Advice!

  • I also found that I couldn’t add categories with version 2.1.3. In another thread post someone suggested trying to access the admin section by going to http://mysite.com/wp-admin/ instead of http://mysite.com/wp-login. This method worked for me. This seems like something that needs to be addressed from WP in a later release.

    To answer you questions –

First – I really don’t think there’s any risk in NOT using www in the url. I don’t include www in any of my urls.
Second – You may want to check under the Options menu that the “WordPress Address” and the “Blog Address” are the same with respect to using www or not. If you have the blog in a sub folder… yoursite.com/blog/ that should be fine.

    Good luck

I’ve just had the exact same problem and it was fixed by removing the www.

    My questions is: Why?

    This is getting annoying. 😐

I just tried to write a new article and I get the same problem. I have to remove the www part to actually be able to write in the text editor. This is a pain.

Is this a config thing? WP is set to use www. as a prefix, so why do I need to remove it?

If WP is set to use www as a prefix, and you’re using the latest version of WP, then it won’t let you “remove it”. You’ll get redirected to the correct address.

I suggest upgrading to the latest version.
