Today I found out that 49 of my WordPress blogs in 3 domains have vanished. They do not have backups of my stuff and i have no idea what I am going to do. I have backups from 4/14, but the blogs are gone and most of the files in public_html are gone. Beware if you use them for your websites and blogs.

I have no idea how this happened. Some of the blogs still show up in my cpanel (fantastico). When I check the domains with FTP or file manager(cpanel) the blogs are gone.

Hostgator does not backup your stuff if you files exceed a certain number or the total files exceed so many gig. My stuff was greater on both counts. I have backups from a plugin and exported XML files of each blog. I have no idea if the blogs are gone how to restore. I am really upset, no make MAD as hell.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would gladly listen.

I have backups of all my blogs plus XML exports

But since the wordpress files are gone, how could a backup be used to recreate the blog?

I’ve you’ve got the database, the themes and the uploaded files saved then you should be alright. You can install WordPress again, upload the files from the ‘uploads’ directory back again, same with the theme and any plugins, then import the database and you should be pretty close to where you were before.

As for how it happened, that’s something only Hostgator can tell you – and that’s only if they can find anything in their server logs.

Hostagtor says that supposedly they have backups of only the databases (big deal).

I have backups of the databases and the wordpress files on my computer that were created with a plugin.

I also have an exported XML file of each blog.

Most of the blogs are gone. They do not show up with FTP or cpanel’s filemanager. It seems that my backups cannot be used because they were created with a plugin.

if hostgator cannot find out what caused the problem and fix it, it sounds like what i have to do is:

    1. delete all of the databases (cpanel fantastico) and possibly phpmyadmin. all traces of any of the blogs will be gone.

    2. recreate each blog with fantastico and then copy the required wordpress files and overwrite what is there.

i have cloned blogs before and used an export of the XML file to import things into a new blog. the only problem with this is that any widgets that were setup in the original blog do NOT get added into the new blog.
