Do you have a section of the dashboard to hold CSS modifications, other than the theme’s files?

Install this Custom CSS Manager plugin and use its section of the dashboard to hold this;
#recent-posts-3 h3 {
margin: 0;
}
Thanks, but that only changed it for the first link, the rest still have the same gap above the post

Try adding this;
.widget#recent-posts#3 ul li,
.widget#recent-posts#3 ol li {
padding: 0;
margin: 0;
}
