I just updated to 4.4.5, and now it’s working erratically.

The main issue is that half the time the pop-up doesn’t load–just the X button appears in the middle of the screen. (Not an X like an image that hasn’t loaded–but the X to close the pop-up)

I’ve turned off my cache, so that’s not the issue. And, it happens in multiple browsers, so that doesn’t appear to be the issue either. I’ve also updated the WordPress install, but that hasn’t helped.

Moreover, the other half of the time, the pop-up loads fine. So, I don’t think it’s an issue with the image in the pop-up.

I’ve eliminated every variable I can think of. Any idea why the pop-ups won’t load consistently?

  • Hi @chrislawhorn,

Can you link me to a URL so I can see this happening please?

Usually the only reason the popup would show just the X is if it has no content. This could be an error loading the content or similar but I can’t really tell until I see it happening.

    Thanks

I ended up reverting to an older version of the plug-in to solve the problem.

I was having a number of issues with 4.4.5–half the time it loaded the pop-up correctly and half the time it just loaded an “x.” But, also, the search engine option in the referral section didn’t work.

I started re-installing old versions of the plug-in until I found one that worked correctly. The one that works is 4.3.2.

It’s presently set up to show pop-ups just to search engine traffic from new visitors. So, if you want to see it in action search google for this:

    site:runhundred.com justin

And click on any of the results.

In short, it’s nice to have a temporary fix. But, I’d be curious to know what’s been done in the new versions of the plug-in that have made it stop working on my site.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I’ll send a message to the developer to see what changes may have been made that could cause this.

    Hey there.

I am having this same problem with my popup. I can only get the X button. I have it set via a specific referer- pinterest.com (You guessed it, I’m a craft blogger).

    My url is http://www.corduroydreams.com/

    Any help?

    Update…

As far as I can tell, if pinterest refers to a specific blog post, then the popup works just fine. But, I switched from my .blogspot url a while ago, and so I have my old posts forwarding, and whenever pinterest refers to one of those posts, it only displays the X.

Hope that makes sense. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

    @corduroydreams

I saw your note saying you’d resolved this. If you have a moment, I’d be curious to know how you fixed the problem.

@corduroydreams how did you set up posts to forward to your new URLs? It could be that your forwarding method is the issue?

Also, can you give us a URL example of one that works and one that doesn’t so that we can take a look at what’s going on. Thanks.

It’s been a few months, so I tried upgrading to the latest version of this plugin–but I’m getting the exact same issues:

The image doesn’t load–just an “X” to close the pop-up.

    Any ideas?

    Hi there @chrislawhorn,

Hope your well today and I apologize about the delay here.

Can I have a link to your site please? Are you still using a caching plugin? If you are could you advise which one so I can try and replicate please?

We’d love to help you get this working 🙂

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

Thanks for following up, but neither of the last two updates of this plug-in worked on my site. And, after a couple weeks without any reply here, I switched to a different plug-in.

If I switch back, I’ll re-activate this thread. But, I’m content for now.

    Thanks.

    Hi @chrislawhorn,

    Thanks for the additional information.

Glad to hear you have found a plugin that does work for you.

If you’d like to switch back and get PopUp working I’d be more than happy to help.

Sorry again about the original delay.

    Kind Regards
    Jack.
