Support » Plugin: iCafe Library » Embedded Flash object causes flickering by side change

  • Hi,
iCafe Library is a very cool Plugin I use it in my Mediathek (A main menu point).
I would’nt like to renounce this any more, so hence, I turn to you:

The Problem: Every time if I click a Link, Firefox draws the whole side anew, what becomes apparent by a sort of “flickering”. It seems that the Last Poster have the same problem, but did’nt ask about.

I never had before problems with the embedded videos. With deactivated Plugin the side functions change normally (I would act only very much reluctantly).

I suppose a solution would be first The Flash objects to activate after the side is completely loaded. But I have not tried it yet (I write only reluctantly in header.php). So I would like to ask You first around a solution. Any Idea?

Thank you for your efforts beforehand,
    Savarah

Savarah, can you send me a link directly to a page that demonstrates the problem. Tell me exactly where to click to see the problem and I’ll try to get it fixed quickly for you!

Its everywhere on my site (Link below), when you click on the firs 5 Top-Menu-Points (excluded Home): “Heilige Schrift”, “Babylonischer Wein”, “Esoterik & Lichtarbeit”, “Wissenschaft”, “Zeitgeist”.

When this pages includes an embeded Video (on the top), then the side will be white for shortly (new loading). I can’t say if this problem only by pages or also by Posts with embed Video. Because I’m using more pages as Posts at the moment.

On pages with iCafe Library-Books there is no problem (loads normaly), but all other pages of the homepage with embed Videos.

One more question. When you deactivate the iCafe Library plugin does the flicker on other pages go away?

Yes, when I deactivate the iCafe Library Plugin the other pages loading normaly (no flicker)!

Thank you for your efforts beforehand,

Savarah, I cannot seem to recreate this issue on my test site. I’m wondering if it a conflict between my plugin and some other plugin or your template. Are you using a publicly available template I can load and test with? If not, can you try switching to another template or disabling other plugins to see if the issue resolves? Then at least I will know what to focus my efforts on.

cnilsson, I have tried the following:
Template: I’m using the publicly available template “Arjuna X” as child-Template for changing the Design individually. You can find this Template on WordPress.org for loading and testing. When I’m switching to other Templates (z.B. Twenty Ten or Twenty Twelve) the Problem is the same (flickering pages).
Other Plugins: I have all other Plugins deaktivated, but the problem remains (flickering pages)
It seems not to be the template or other plugins. Only when I deactivate your Plugin the Sites loading normaly. I have seen that you have the same problem on your Plugin-Presentation-Site: iCafe site, so you can find and resolve eventually this issue there.
If you can’t find or resolve this issue then I will probably have to resort to my first solution (stopgap): The Flash objects to activate after the side is completely loaded (in header.php). Unfortunately I have not a better solution.

Thanks for the info…I had not done any testing on iCafe as that is my main site.
I have now deleted the library plugin from the iCafe site and I’m still experiencing the flickering on page loads. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Looks like a known issue beginning with WordPress 3.2 related to loading javascript libraries like jquery (which iCafe Library uses). In fact, on my iCafe site I had to disable the library and the Kimili flash plugin to get rid of the white flicker. I’m continuing to research but here are some threads with suggestions.

    I’m still investigating

I’ve traced to problem down to the JQuery UI Library. If I use version 1.8.9 the flash of white is gone but there are some broken styles in the accordion menu. If I include version 1.9+ then my plugin looks correct but the flicker returns. I’m going to keep investigating but in the end, I may just have to rewrite the broken styles to use version 1.8.9

Is no bugfix existing for this bug within the JQuery UI Library Version 1.9+, also no planned bugfix?

    (@cnilsson)

I’m not yet sure it’s a bug. JQuery 1.9 works fine up to WordPress 3.1.
In WordPress 3.2 all versions of jquery after 1.8.16 exibit the issue. So it doesn’t seem to be a bug with either one but rather an incompatability between them. I’m going through the change logs between jquery 1.8.16 and 1.8.17 to see if I can pinpoint the cause.

Savarah, here is what I’ve found so far.

Savarah, wanted to let you know that I am still working on this issue. I have an open bug ticket with jQueryUI and am working with them to resolve the issue.
