When I go my usual loginpage, the page won’t load, and I get a pop up window, requesting a username and password for authentication, and directing me to look at the website:

    http://www.webhostingstatus.com/

I was thinking that this may be a site trying to harvest usernames and passwords, so I am reluctant to enter my username and password – can anyone confirm if it is genuine or not?

I think you need to contact your hosting providers regarding this.

Many thanks, will try that now – (I had been assuming it was perhaps a wordpress issue given the recent attacks, but perhaps my hosting provider has put an extra security layer on)

It’s not a harvesting website, it’s a security measure because of all the brute force attacks on WordPress sites. My host is doing the exact same with the same pop up and link.

On the link, it gives you the username and password to enter into the pop up, which will then redirect you to your WordPress login page. 🙂

    Thanks for the replies.

I’ve just had a reply from my hosting service providers to confirm that it is indeed an extra security measure. (I guess I was just a bit over cautious, as there were no other details on the website – but better safe than sorry!)
