AS I reported more than a week ago in troubleshooting, I have been unable to edit my website (sbranch.org) for more than three weeks now and cannot get any further responses to my plea for help on this forum under troubleshooting. Accordingly, I have begun to attempt to rebuild some site functionality outside the wordpress umbrella (i.e., by creating php pages and putting them in my root directory that containst the wordpress directory). Is there any chance that I may be able to edit my site in the future when a new wordpress rev comes out? I believe that the problem started the last time I “upgraded” to the new version.

I really regret that I have no edit access to more than 5000 pages on my website.

Any help would still be appreciated, but I have pretty much given up hope. If anyone knows of another forum where I can plea for help, please let me know.

This has nothing to do with WordPress core. Many hosts are currently experiencing problems due to mass attacks. Yours (Godaddy)is one of them. Try contacting them.

I’d also suggest reviewing http://wordpress.org/support/topic/brute-force-attacks-and-wordpress and Brute Force Attacks.

Can you see these pages on your site?

If you have access to the database you have not lost anything.

So when you sign in here, http://sbranch.org/wordpress/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fsbranch.org%2Fwordpress%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1 what exactly happens?

I can get to my dashboard. Then if I go to my website and click on “Edit This” I get a message from chrome:

    This webpage is not available
The connection to sbranch.org was interrupted.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall’s or antivirus software’s settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don’t believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings… > Change proxy settings… > LAN Settings and deselect the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” checkbox.
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset.

Godaddy makes the same claim that it is not their problem, i.e., the problem is with WordPress.

Reminds me of the old days when IBM and the phone company always pointed their fingers at the other guy.

I can get to my dashboard.

I can’t get to your site or the login.

Follow the suggestions given to you by Chrome and contact your host for a server status update . . . what esmi said.
[edit] I can get to your site and the sign in page now.

GoDaddy admitted that they were also under attack and suffering problems 4-5 days ago.

I have contacted GoDaddy for the umpteenth time and their rep has reviewed all the links on this thread and concludes that none of them are pertinent to my problem. He suggests that I now contact AT&T to try to get them to clear out their local caches on their servers for my website to see if that will fix my interrupt message. Would any of you be willing to comment whether you think this has a possibility of being helpful? I am not optimistic that I will be able to get AT&T to do anything if I can even find a rep who has any idea what such a request means. My schedule is very full until after Sunday April 21, so I may not be able to contact AT&T before next Monday.

Are where you can take your computer to a Starbucks or someone else who has wireless. That would rule out a connection problem.

Also have you tried a different browser?

    kmessinger

    (@kmessinger)

    And did you do this?
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall’s or antivirus software’s settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.

Did you contact the theme developer?
    http://wpthemepark.com/themes/

    Is this you? http://sbranch.org/wordpress/
    Or this? http://sbranch.org/home.php

[edit] I see thru whois that both of those urls are you. Did you do this Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings… > Change proxy settings… > LAN Settings and deselect the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” checkbox.

Please describe in detail, Then if I go to my website and click on “Edit This” what you are doing? When you get to the dashboard the menu is on the left. What are you trying to edit?

I will try to answer all of your excellent questions. I have not taken my computer to Starbucks, but I will take my iPad there tomorrow and try. At home, my iPad indicates it cannot connect when I log into my dashboard and click “pages” and “all pages” I get the message “Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost.”

I get to my dashboard by using the url sbranch.org/wordpress/wp-admin and logging in appropriately.

I encounter the same problem IE, Firefox, or Chrome, i.e., timeout when I tray to access any file by clicking on “files” and then “all files” on the left side of the dashboard. I can access any of the other links on the left side w/o problems.

I have not contacted the theme developer, but I encounter the same problem with all of the usual wordpress themes, so the problem is not theme related.

Chrome’s proxy server option has always been deselected.

I am both sbranch.org/wordpress and sbranch.org/home.php Pages under the wordpress link cannot be edited.

I have started to recreate a workable website by developing various pages outside the wordpress umbrella, i.e., sbranch.org/home.php, intending if necessary to eventually sever further connections with wordpress because I cannot edit any of the 5000+ pages currently inaccessible through my wordpress dashboard. I have already recreated approximately 3500 of those pages, but the other 1500 or so will really be tedious and time-consuming to recreate outside the wordpress theme.

I have found no means to add Google Chrome as a permitted program in my firewall’s or antivirus software’s settings. My antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials and my firewall is whatever Windows 7 provides. I do not believe that this poses a problem because I have full edit capability on another wordpress website, wrbcsailaway.org from this computer using Chrome. That leads me to conclude that neither the firewall nor MSE is blocking Chrome in any way.

If you would give me a hint how to add Google Chrome as a permitted program in my firewall’s or antivirus software’s settings, I would appreciate that information.

Thank you for your attention and suggestions regarding my plight. I appreciate any further insight you might be willing to provide. For example, can I back up my database (which I have no idea how to do) and then reinstall a complete new copy of wordpress v 3.?.? and then restore the database and put all of my files back in? That thought scares the daylights out of me because I fear ending up without even the limited (i.e., uneditable) functionality that I presently have.

I experience exactly the same problem when I log in at Starbucks with my iPad. Of course it is very likely that AT&T is the ISP for Starbucks in the local Target Store. But I suspect that this is a real long-shot issue, i.e., that the problem is related to the ISP’s local cache.
