    I had to down-grade my review because I later found that the slider was loading multiple javascripts on EVERY page of the website even though I was only running the slider on the homepage.

    I reported this to the developer a month ago and got no response…

    … had to remove it and go looking for another packages there are hundreds out there and so far no luck in finding a comparable full-featured slider.

    If you have unlimited resources, go for it. Otherwise, this is not the slider for you.

    Highly customizable (very well documented) with a little extra coding or tons of options without coding (like the transition between slides).

    The interface for managing the slides is top-notch.

    I’ve been looking for several weeks for a slider that works with with a flexible layout, is easy to manage, and can quickly be integrated with my theme.

    I only wish it had a carousel to preview the upcoming slides at the bottom – I hope the developer will consider this feature request for the next update.

    Thanks for your feedback! Adding a carousel of thumbnails gets pretty complicated, but you can add thumbnail navigation using a custom slideshow template. In the future I’d like to release a slideshow skin that has thumb nav like that built in.

    I’m a little behind on support right now, but there is an easy fix for this, I posted a reply to your post.

    A future release of Meteor Slides will do this automatically, only loading the scripts when needed, but it is a bit complicated and I haven’t got a good solution for this yet.

    However, these scripts are small files and have very little effect on your overall resources. The only way Meteor Slides will bog down your site is if the slide images themselves are too large or if the slideshow has a lot of slides.

    The best thing you can do to keep your pages loading quickly is to inspect them in Firebug or another tool to see how large each file on the page is and how long it is taking to load. I try to keep my pages under 1MB total, 500KB if I can. Once the page is as small as you can get it, then make sure you add caching to really speed it up.

    Thank you Josh! I tried to hold off to update my review because I know you do this on your free time.

    My web host told me that every file load is a “hit” on the server. Since I have moderate traffic, loading 5 extra javascripts on a page that does not use them are 5 extra hits. Add the images from Jetpack’s social media and EVERY SINGLE PAGE had 15 extra hits on my website not even counting images and the template’s Javascript. They were freaking out and told me they may shut down out my supposedly “unlimited” account.

    I had to go into resource reduction mode. I installed Satollo’s “Cache Lite” program (it does not mess up any javascripts) and signed-up for google’s PageSpeed beta. What a difference!

    Will re-install the plug-in with your fix, now.

    I appreciate your patience! It may be a hit in that it’s pinging your server, but it shouldn’t re-download the file each time. Most of the time that isn’t going to add up to much, but if you have very limited server resources or a super busy site it’s certainly worth taking care of those extra hits. Let me know if you have any trouble getting Meteor Slides to work with Cache Lite or PageSpeed.
