   I've downloaded this new version and it appears in my plugins page, but when I try to activate it the plugins page simply refreshes itself and the plugin doesn't activate. The message at the top of the page says it wasn't activated because it triggered a fatal error.
   Has anyone else come across this behaviour?
   The previous version worked fine for me.

   I've seen that behavior before with namespace conflicts. I would bet that it tries to redefine a function.

   Did you upload the entire search-everything directory?

   No, the installation instructions explicitly said to place the searcheverything.php file into the plugins directory.
   Should I upload the whole directory?

   yes, the entire directory. I changed those directions yesterday but forgot to change it on the 4.1 branch.
