• Ok, so I didn’t use my site in quite sometime and needed free up some space while I worked on a new one, so I saw a db I didn’t think was being used(poor naming) and deleted it…. wellll, it turns out my WordPress was using it and now my site is gone.

While I planed on replacing it I really liked the site and wanted to keep it up, I know I cant get my content back but I’d at least like to get it up and running again… so two questions

    1. I created an empty db: how do I make it a wordpress db?

    2. How do I tell my website to point to the new db? or at least find the name what it’s pointed at so I can just make a new one with the same name.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • While you’re at it, may as well update your WP version as well. Just delete all the WP files and upload the new ones, the follow the installation instructions. That’s probably the easiest way.

When you say you deleted your database, where did you delete it exactly and where are you creating new ones?

It’s through my host providers service (dreamhost)

Yeah that sounds like a way adam, but does that keep my theme and everything? Or do I just back the theme up, delete wp, install the new one, put the theme back on and hope it all works? Had pluggin things with it too…

You could try to copy the themes and plugins over to your hard drive, then once the new WP is installed, copy it over and see if it works with the new WP. It might work to have them in the folders while you install, but I prefer to start clean as it eliminates any possibility of errors.
