So I have a fully functional wordpress site that I want to clone to WordPress MU children site. I am able to clone the site to the WordPress MU main site but can’t do so for the children site. There are multiple plugins that support cloning children sites but only if you create the child template first.

How can I clone a WordPress site (plugin settings, posts, etc) to the WordPress MU child site so that I can then clone the child sites?

    Hope this makes sense!

    Manually.

Make a child site, set it up how you want, and then use that for cloning 🙂 Blog Copier can do that.

That’s the step I’m trying to automate. I already have the template/site I want set up as a wordpress blog but not as a child site. I’m trying to avoid redoing the site again as child site.

I plan on creating multiple wp mu networks so it will be really tedious to re create it every time. 😛

You only have to make the ‘to be copied’ child site once. What I’m saying is make a CHILD site as template 🙂

If I made a child site as a template, is it possible to migrate the child site to another wordpress mu install?

As much as it is to do that from any site on a Network to another Multisite instance. Which is to say yes you can, but it’s not simple or straightforward.

Could you lead me to a resource that could teach me how to do it?

Well generally we tell people to just export the content.

If you’re dead set on moving all the settings, read this: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/30103/convert-a-multisite-wordpress-install-into-a-single-site

The problem is the shared User Base. it’s NOT going to come over cleanly.
