You can use bbPress integration with BuddyPress to attach forums to subgroups, and they will remain with the subgroups. But out of the box, bbPress will not be aware that the group a forum is attached to is a subgroup, so it won’t make your subgroup’s forum into a sub-forum.
This means that your group structure will not mirror your forum structure. I don’t know how much of a problem that is to the application you have in mind.

I´ll stay with the bp forum, your life saver plugin + another one to attach imagens to threads . I guess i´ll be good with that set.
And I hope that future versions of bp still keep the native forum.

I still maintain a bp 1.6.5 and all works very well with default bp forum component and your plugin 🙂
What i´ve found is that for new installs of bp 1.7 we are not allowed anymore to keep the “retired” component. This is not clear on BP changelog´s and leads me to a dilema 🙁 Thinkin g about future upgrades, you know?
My ideal estrucure would be:
Gruops (like a district, let´ssay Brooklyn)
SubGroups like:
Brooklyn Traffic
Brooklyn Public Health
Brooklyn Education
etc, etc
On a new test install with bp 1.7 + bbpress i could not get the same level of hierarchy and clearity. Thing look a bit messy with bbpres. maybe i coul not get the feeling but this kind of feature IMHO is a must .

It definitely sounds like a good idea! Old BP forums you just didn’t have to think about, but because you can also view the group forums through the overall forums screen, it does create a disconnect.
I’ll have to look and see how much work would be involved in changing the group forum’s parent forum.

I think this is doable and agree that it’s important, but it might have to wait until after this coming release. BP 1.9 compat is my top priority for this release, along theme compatibility support (since that is long overdue), then new features like this. So it depends on how well those two go. :/
