WordPress removes line breaks within the code tag

    I’m trying to create coding tutorials, with any code converted into entities and placed inside the code tag. How do i stop WP removing line breaks? For example:

    How i’d like it to be:

    <html>

</html>

    How WP changes it:

    <html>
</html>
