Slightly weirded out how this topic’s appeared many times in the forums, but I’ve yet to see a single response that directs help towards the “already there, in the WordPress Page’s Publish” area.

Does anyone know Why this seems so impossible?? I’m trying to password protect one page. Asked a friend to test the site page for me; he still has access.

    Followed the simple steps:
Publish >> Visibility: Password protected [There is a password in there]

Cleared browser Cookies, all history cleared, friend tested, I’ve tested, made up a song and dance about testing — Does anyone know how to help this to work?

And why doesn’t this work? Am I doing something wrong??

    Thank you in advance!!

PS – Not trying to be redundant in asking this, as I’ve looked all over the place for help and advice — Found this page, and basically, what the page [is not] doing, is that it stops where it is supposed to include a prompt to enter password: http://codex.wordpress.org/Content_Visibility#Password_Protected_Content

….Wondered if this was because NEXTGen Gallery Page — according to NEXTGen FAQ:

    Can I password protect galleries?

Yes, WordPress allows you to password protect pages by default – which includes all galleries and content for the entire page. Password protection of pages can be turned on and off at any time, with just a few clicks.

With the help of Ben Huson, the answer becomes clear: the Page, now set to “Default Template” is now registering the Password Protection on the page. *It is unbeknownst to me, whether or not then this was because my templates include Custom Fields. Either way, problem solved.
