I started a page with WP but now need to test something that I wrote myself (with a lot of online help…) .
I spent a long time on Chat with JustHost but am still unsure of how to proceed. From what I understand I should:
    1) backup the whole thing that is in cPanel File manager to my hard disk with the help of FileZilla. That will allow me to restore things to what they were, if I need to.

    2) I should delete from inside the cPanel the three WP folders (WP-admin; WP_contents; WP-includes. And do not delete anything else.

    3) and that si what I am confused with. I have 4 files (2 html and 2 CSS. I should upload them to a folder inside public_html and rename my first page index.html (or is ir index.php?) and place that file directly in the public_html folder rather than in a subfolder.

Do I have to do anything to that file to point it to the subfolder with the other 3 files?

Thank you very much for your help

If you just want to test something, why not just create a folder called test, upload the html files you want to test in there and then just go to that url to test.

If you’re wanting to test html files, you don’t need to rename them .php.

Thanks Christine, but I really want to see it published. can you help?

I’ne actually tried a few things and they work only partly: renamed index.pho index.phpOLD and renamed my main page index.html and placed it in the root public_html. That works inasmuch as it applies the CCS style file. But it des not see the image files. When I open the site through the url and look at “Vire Source” the images (the one that shows and the two that don’t, have links to my c: drive and not to the main page file in the server.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

In fact, I’ve just realized by using another computer that nothing comes up except the text. No CSS styling; no images. I assume that I really have to disactivate WordPress and set up my index.html properly..

    Site URL Please?

    I’ve solved it. Thank you

you’ll need to upload your images to your server and then change the path in your html.

    This isn’t really a WordPress question…
