SEO and Page titles

Hi,

I’m new to WP and I was wondering if WP does the search engine optimising itself with the data you have entered into the pages or its something I need to do. I understand when creating HTML pages I could add the meta tags, description, page name etc myself using notepad, but using WP I’m finding it difficult to see where I can edit this.

Also I think this is in the same questions as above but on the pages tab when you see it in the browser I have… (favicon) Contact | blank where can i edit this black section?
