This feature is not available yet. I have included it on the development version of the plugin and so far it seems to be working OK.
Can I use the developer version?

Note that it’s called development version for a reason, though. There’s a possibility of things breaking/not working as they should since the only tester is me -hopefully not, as I’m pretty sure this version is solid and stable now- so if you encounter any bugs please let me know.
so is there no way to exclude categories in the widget either? From what I understand, it’s possible to exclude categories, but I don’t know if you can do that with the widget.

The topic of this thread is about excluding posts, which is not possible on the current official version of the plugin (2.3.2). However, category exclusion is possible since version 2.0.0.
