Support » Fixing WordPress » Search Codex Plugin crashes WordPress

  • Following the advice in the documentation to make Codex Search my first plugin, I stepped through the links to find the download file. I never found it, but I was able to view the contents of the file which I copied and pasted into a text file and uploaded to the plugins folder.

The codex search plugin appeared in my plugin panel but activating it results in a white screen with one line saying a parsing error occured on line 11.

Being new to this process I could find no way to recover and ended up uninstalling and reinstalling WordPress.

    So I have two questions.

    1. What did I do wrong installing the plugin?
    2. Is there a better way to recover from the error? I’m afraid I might try to add another plugin after I go live and lose all my content.

    Thanks for any hellp.

Did you read your admin/plugins page? The answer is on that page.

Based on you saying you got a parse error? You didnt copy the right stuff, you missed something, etc..

Thanks for pointing out the message below the plugins. I feel better about trying plugins now.

I can’t see how I missed copying something from the plugin script. I did a ctl-a.

I’ll try it again. Might give me a chance to try that fix too.
