I fear I’m missing something obvious here but searches to my question on trying to put html in a page lead me to answer that there should be two tabs at the top of my page editor: visual and text.
I don’t have any tabs and it looks as if I’m permanently in text mode because I see buttons that match the image of the “text editor” on the WordPress support pages.
So…. is this a problem with my installation? I had a old version of wordpress so I just updated and the problem persists.
    thanks for help in advance.

  • you can enter HTML within the text tab, the visual tab is you WYSIWYF (what you see is what you get) editor

If i’m correct the newer versions have replaced HTML with Text (it confused me at first) but I am able to put html code in the text tab

Yes thanks for that. my question is about the fact that I have NO tabs at the top.

Check that you haven’t disabled the rich-text editor in your profile.

Very sorry, miss read you post.

Ok 2 things I can suggest. First in your admin section go to your profile

    Users > Your Profile

and ensure “Disable the visual editor when writing” is UNCHECKED. if not uncheck it and update. now try editing a page or post.

secondly. Clear your browsers cache as this can sometime cause errors

thank you! that was in fact the problem. I thought there was a setting somewhere but was searching under the system level writing settings.
