   hi there,

   our blog site is being powered by WordPress...

   can WordPress also be used to implement permalink on shopping pages without putting the pages on a blog ?

   no, wordpress controls what wordpress does. If you want pretty permalinks for content that exists outside of WordPress you need to acquaint yourself with mod_rewrite:
