Pending notification/notifier on sidebar

Perhaps this has been asked but is there a way that I can have a notifier bubble hovering over the sidebar for posts that are in the “Pending” status? I have a multi author blog where people submit different types of custom posts but my editors must go inside each custom post type to check to see if there’s pending posts. We’d like it if you could just see a bubble with the number of pending posts, similar to the bubble you see when you have plugin updates.
