  • There is a problem of the <!–more–> tag cutting off post in RSS Feeds. In the feed, if you have the <!–more–> tag, then that is where your post in the feed will stop. Though there are plugins to actually fix this problem, I was wondering if this has been rectified in WordPress 2.3 Beta 3?

Can anyone who has downloaded the beta copy confirm? Or is there any plans to fix this problem at all?

A RSS Feed should display the full post irregardless if there is a <!–more–> tag in the post or not. It defeats the purpose if a visitor has to click the more link in the RSS Feed just to view the whole post.

  • It was decided a while ago to continue the current <!–more–> usage. I’ve tested Full Text Feed, and you shouldn’t have any problems using that in WordPress 2.3.

Whilst I haven’t tested DualFeeds in WordPress 2.3, I will try to do so in the near future.

For the record, DualFeeds gives you two ‘feeds’: a full post feed (with the <!–more–> tag stripped) AND a summary feed (created from the excerpt, or the <!–more–> tag, or cut off after a user definable number of characters).

I may be a bit biased here, but personally I think WordPress should offer this functionality by default, so that user can offer their readers both full post and summary feeds and the readers can choose what suits them.

Or at least pick what they want to offer in an admin option.
