Hey everyone. So a few users have been experiencing upgrade issues with the new version of Easing Slider “Lite”. What appears to be happening is that the plugin is de-activating after the upgrade process. Once activated, the plugin appears to be reset and users appear lost there slideshow settings.

This was occurring because the main plugin file was changed from ‘easingslider.php’, to ‘easingsliderlite.php’. This small detail was actually causing no problems at all on my own WordPress installs, of which I tested 7. However, for some users this caused the plugin to automatically deactivate, thus hampering the upgrade process that would import your old slides; hence the impression that everything had been deleted.

v2.0.1.3 of Easing Slider “Lite” has revoked this automatic process that was subject to failing. Instead, we’ve chosen to go with a manual process in the form of a button on the ‘Edit Slideshow’ page. Once you’ve upgraded from v1.2.1, you’ll need to press this button to import your own settings. It’s not ideal, but it works.

I’ve taken a quick screencast below of myself following the upgrade procedure. It’s actually very simple, and very familiar. Again, just be sure you import your old settings afterwards. That’s it.

On a side note, Easing Slider “Lite” v2.x doesn’t actually delete your old settings, so if you decide to downgrade back to v1.2.1 your old settings will remain in-tact, as they were before.

Lastly, for most users the upgrade process has actually been going fine, so don’t be alarmed or deterred from upgrading if you haven’t already. Although I’m unaware of the reason why the upgrade procedure seems to differ for some WordPress installs (probably due to their hosting setup), it looks like it has (hopefully) been resolved in taking an alternative approach.

Looking good – IE7 display issue seems fixed but I do see an issue as the slide scrolls in IE7 – a line part way down across the image and top and bottom parts out of registration as the image is moving. Looks like a rendering issue?

Hi Paul, seems like an IE7 rendering issue. I wouldn’t be too concerned. Little we can do about that. I’ve had a look at other slideshows doing the same thing, seems common. For responsive slideshows the format of actually laying out a slideshow has changed slightly, hence why what might be affecting it now probably didn’t in the past.

Again, seems common amongst other similarly designed slideshows. Just been having a look around.

Seems perfect in every other browser! Wouldn’t get too worried 🙂

No – wasn’t too worried! – just feedback.
If it’s an IE7 shortcoming then too bad!

My slider shows on some pages and does not show on others. Although all pages are on the same template?

Is there any way i can download the older version of the slider and re-install this?

@maxthornton, can you link me to the page? I’ll have a quick look for you.

I see what you are referring to Max, that’s definitely a theme issue. Possibly related to caching problems. I see you’re using a Quick Cache plugin. Have you tried updating the cache?

The slideshow simply isn’t being printed on a few of the pages. If you are sure that they are using the same template, it must be caching. There isn’t anything within the slideshow code that would cause an issue like this.

You can download the older version via the repository, but again I highly doubt you’ll see a different. This isn’t Easing Slider related, and definitely not something that the newer version could have caused.

Why you are releasing a new versing almost every day?

    (@matthewruddy)

@omi Azad, bugfixes, and lots of them. As the software is so new, there have been quite a few initial small issues that have prevented the plugin from working for some users. It is important that we get these fixes released as soon as we have managed to fix them to avoid putting additional time into support for bugs we’ve already addressed. As well as this, we don’t want users upgrading to find that their plugin has broken, which is what was happening in some cases.

Being a jQuery-based plugin, this adds a secondary layer of complexity and is a serious pain-point when it comes to bugs.

If you see minor upgrades, such as v2.1.x, and you are having no problems, you probably don’t need to upgrade. That said, I would always advise remaining up to date.

The next update, v2.1.1, will probably be the last one for a few weeks. It will be available in a couple of days, addressing the last of the very minor bugs.

This is all just part of releasing major plugin upgrades. Especially with the nature of WordPress, lots of things can go wrong. Generally, if bugs haven’t occurred during pre-release testing we can only deal with them as they come after release.

After todays upgrade, there is an issue in Safari. After each slide the whole page blinks. There is no such issue in Firefox.
