I don’t think it is. I added the line of code I was given, and nothing happened. There was no change. Then WordPress updated, (a few weeks ago?) and since then I don’t get a specific error code or message, simply a note in red saying there was an error and try later.
I’ve never been able to upload using WordPress, although as I said NextGen appears to have no problem whatsoever.
I’m really stuck here with not being able to update at all. It’s been quite a long time and I’ve been very patient, but I would really like someone to help me with this if they could?
All I want to do is upload my photos. I can’t be the only one who’s ever had this problem.
I can only assume that for whatever reason, no-one wants to help me out on this.
Thanks WordPress ‘support’. Would it be churlish to ask here what other blogging software might be better to use?
I’m sorry you have not been helped here. Do you still have the same error message in your other thread ? Or is it just not working to upload images? If the latter, try
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default 2012 theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
I’ve deactivated plugins using the FTP method. I’ve set the standard theme. I’ve reset the plugins folder, and I still get error message in a pink box to the right side when uploading media:

Now you’re suggesting the only final solution wold be to reinstall WordPress? Am I right in that? Why keep the contents folder?
Reinstalling the entire files surely means losing my database, hundreds of entries, configuration, everything, because one thing doesn’t work. It sounds very extreme to me.
As I said, if I upload images via ftp and add them by using the add media with url link, it works!
The contents folder contains your theme – I assume you want to keep that?
The content of your site is in the database – it is not affected by reinstalling WP.
Reinstalling WP is done all the time. If it seems to extreme to you, then I really don’t know what to suggest.
Perhaps someone else around here will have another idea.
I have reinstalled WP in the past, I don’t have a problem in the doing of it, I just think it seems extreme for 1 problem.
However, I do know that an installation is automated, so if all my stuff is in the database, how does the new installation know that i already have a database? And how to connect to it?
There is no “installing” being suggested here. The installation process only works if you navigate to wp-admin/install.php and if you don’t already have WordPress installed using that database.
All you are being asked to do is to replace all of your WordPress core files to cover the possibility of file corruption etc. No site content will be harmed during this process if you avoid the wp-content folder.

OK here’s what happened.
I deleted the two folders and the root files. Luckily I backed up the root files as it wanted my config.php later on!
I then downloaded a fresh WP 3.5.1, unzipped it, and uploaded adming and includes folder and the root files.
After uploading my old config.php file, I logged in, tried to upload a file, and got the exact same error again.
So, any ideas what next please?
Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.
I have been on contact with my host who said some folders weren’t correct ch mod. All files have been changed to 644, and all folders changed to 755.
However the server log shows no entires relating to WordPress, and they can see no issues that would explain it, so they are of the opinion that it is an internal WordPress problem.
I would add that I have the NextGen gallery plugin and that uploads files form my computer with no problem at all. I can also FTP with njo problem. So I would also agree that the problem lies with WP and not the server.
Using a Mimbo theme for over a year with no problems, then updated WP yesterday and images won’t load onto front page. They load normally into latest post (individual page) but image doesn’t also appear on the front page as it did in the past. I can’t detect what code is changed/missing & my searches for solution turn up nothing. Any clue?
