Hi,
thanks for your post.
Your observation is right, that option is no longer existing in TablePress. The reason is simple: Instead of just allowing to choose what user role can access TablePress, it is now possible to choose specific capabilities that a user role has. As that requires a little more user interface, I opted to not include that into TablePress, but to allow using another plugin for this.
I recommend to install the Members plugin from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/ It’s “Role Manager” component allows to edit the capabilities of each user group. For each user role (like “Administrator”, “Editor”, or “Author”), you can specifically set what they are allowed to do, and what not. You will see several capabilities that start with the name “tablepress_”.
After making your desired modifications, Members can be uninstalled again, as these changes will stick in the database.

Tobias
Thanks a lotall is right !
Hi,
no problem! You are very welcome!
Best wishes,
Tobias
P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!
Hi,
I just saw that you rated TablePress. Thank you, that’s really nice!
Just out of curiosity: Is there something missing or not working in TablePress for you? Maybe I know a solution to earn that fifth star in your rating…?! 🙂
Best wishes,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I’m using «User Role Editor» and not «Members». Disabled all TablePress capabilities for the author role (and only for author) – and now, the TablePress menu has totally GONE in my WP backend, not only for an author but also for the Admin!
How to proceed? Thanks for help.
Hi,
that could mean that the capabilities were removed entirely for some reason…
I can try to restore them directly on your site. For that, please contact me via email (the address is in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”), with the credentials to a temporary admin account.
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
You are fast! Just found the «problem» within these three minutes you had to reply…
…I changed the TablePress menu position to «Hauptebene (oben)» AND I’m using a plugin to white-brand WP. There is NO «Hauptebene» in my WP installation – and this way no TablePress menu in my backend. «I kicked my own ass…» 😉
BTW: I successfully upgraded from WP-Table Reloaded to TablePress and I really like all your work. Best wishes from Switzerland. Take care and happy coding.
And: I will immediately donate for you. 🙂
Hi,
ah, that makes sense then! 🙂 Good to hear that you found this and were able to restore the admin menu entry! 🙂
And thanks for the donation, I really appreciate it!
Best wishes,
Tobias
