When I attempt to upload a picture using Dashboard > Media > Add New, I get errors.

Using the browser uploader I get:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@4x4geocachers.com.au and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Using the Multi File uploader I see

    HTTP Error

In either case, the file does get uploaded.

Any assistance to fix this will be gratefully received.

  • Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your host should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.

I can look at the error log via cPanel, I have no idea what they mean, or how to fix the errors they contain.

There appears to be missing files. In a standard installation of WP shouldn’t they be there (already included in the install)?

    I’m confused.

Those missing files have nothing to do with WordPress and certainly wouldn’t be creating this issue. This kind of problem is commonly caused by the server’s mod-security configuration., Have a word with your hosts about this.

    mod-security configuration??

Please be more specific about what I should be talking to my host about.

Step by step instructions on diagnosing the problem would be really helpful.

After struggling with this issue, both here and with my web host, I finally realised that there were lots of posts on the WordPress forums about HTTP issues and problems uploading media with the current version of WP.

My final solution was really simple – I downgraded back to version 3.4.2 (from 3.5.1) and everything works again.

Looking forward to seeing Media Upload problems being fixed in the next release of WP.
