• Updating a customized theme is not easy – I have to manually install all those customized php, css files & images.

Every week there’s yet another update to this theme. I’m really tired of seeing warnings of many plugins and themes that come every other day. Why can’t developers just note the change(s) and unless there’re some major issues, release it every month or so?

I guess I’ll up the version number to 2.10 or so in CSS just to be safe.

Aren’t you using a Child Theme?

Nope… I modified the existing one. I assume it’s easier with a child theme, as there’s no hassle, but again, I’m really annoyed with so many frequent updates – themes, plugins, applications & programs, fixing trivial issues. Feels like developers only want to get noticed.

I don’t want you to be annoyed, but I don’t see the developers stopping their updates. You are right in thinking it’s easier with a Child Theme, as once changes are transported there, you needn’t worry about updates erasing your modifications.

Another way to look at this is that developers who are constantly maintaining and improving a theme or plugin are a big plus for users. Imagine the other side of it – using a theme or plugin that is no longer supported and which no longer works with current WP core.

    Thanks Andrew.
WPyogi, I never said that developers should quit, but release minor updates slightly less often, every month or so. For example, I remember when Catch Box released a new version with Czech & French translation only. Nothing more nothing less. In my opinion, that was a very minor thing, not worth issuing a new version.

No author will ever gain anything by releasing Theme more often than others. As far as the stats, that will have no impact.

And as noted above, none of this would be an issue if we have a Child Theme in place. Children’s are easy to use and they will protect you against Theme updates.

    Thanks,
    Emil
