• Hi,

I’ll bet this has been asked before but I simply don’t know what to search for or what the best title for this question is.

The homepage of my website is 403: Forbidden

This error message is generated when the web server is trying to access a file that does not exist or has been configured incorrectly

    My Homepage is canamsocial.com

My blog does load here as canamsocial.com/blog/

How can I get my blog to load on my homepage of canamsocil.com?

My host is NetSol. I downloaded WordPress from them.

    Thanks!!
    Diane

I’m guessing that your WP installation is in a directory (folder) of its own, rather than at your public root. If your blog is intended to be the entire site (in other words, all pages will be WP pages), WP can be installed at root position instead of in a sub-directory. Then a user going to your canamsocial.com will land on your blog’s main landing page.

Right now, NetSol is serving index.html or home.html that it finds at your document root, as that is what it looks for first.

Take a look at this Codex article. In particular, read the section: Using a pre-existing subdirectory install.

Just a reminder that I made a big assumption above: namely that WP is in its own folder on your server. Check that first before anything else that follows. 🙂

    Thanks, Bill.

I looked and you’re right, WP is in it’s own folder in htdocs.

So if I move everything in the WP folder directly into htdocs, it should work the way I’ve described I want it to?

    Thanks,
    Diane

Well, if you already have content in your blog, you should read the section I referred you to. This should allow you to get what you want with WP remaining where it is: in its own folder. Again, this assumes that you want your blog home page to be The home page for your domain. But the procedure is there step by step for you, and isn’t difficult.

By the way, if your blog is brand new with no content (sorry I didn’t check), I would start fresh and just start over with WP at root (htdocs).

    Yay!

Okay, with a little struggling with the instructions in the codex I got my site to do what I want it to do!

Thank you, Bill, for your help!

That’s great Diane. You’re welcome, but I just found the right Codex page for you 🙂 Don’t forget to mark this topic resolved.

    Hi, Bill.
I did follow the instructions from the Codex page, but I have some problems in a couple of points. I already copied and moved index.php and wp-config-php files (with Filezilla) but I can’t open/ edit the index.php file. Also, when it says “Change the line that says:
    require(‘./wp-blog-header.php’);
to the following, using your directory name for the WordPress core files:
require(‘./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’)” I don’t know wich directory is referring to. My root directory? The directory I had both files before?
Thanks a lot for your help.
