    Hi,

When I copy text on my web site to a document I am now seeing a whole bunch of stuff that gets added to the text and I don’t want any of it. I only noticed this issue today. I’m not sure if this is due to a change in WordPress or one of my plugins. Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance. πŸ™‚

    Example of the issue:
    I go here: http://georgeorwellnovels.com/journalism/through-a-glass-rosily/

I highlight and copy the first few words of the article and I get this: The recent article by Tribune’s Vienna correspondent – See more at: http://georgeorwellnovels.com/journalism/through-a-glass-rosily/#sthash.FuaM8jIJ.dpuf

I don’t want the: “See more at:” and the “#sthash.FuaM8jIJ.dpuf” and don’t even know why it is appearing. It doesn’t seem to happen every time I do a CTRL-C but it will happen about 50% of the time.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Yep.. just happened to me.

Are you using a plugin which might be adding this “feature”??

I would try temporarily deactivating ALL of my plugins… manually emptying my browser cache… and reloading the page.

Then, try again and see if it happens.

EDIT: DOH… beaten by seconds (esmi).

Thanks for quick replies. I’m going to try deactivating the plugins now. Sorry to have not tried that first. I’m more of a literary person than a tech person.

I think it’s the ShareThis plugin. I deactivated it and the problem has gone away. I wonder if this is a new “feature” of the plugin. Maybe it’s something that can be turned off with a tick box. I need to confirm all of the above now.

I am now confirming that the issue is related to a “beta” feature of the ShareThis plugin.

The info can be found in Settings > ShareThis

    CopyNShare Beta

This feature can be enabled only once you register. Click here to Register.

CopyNShare is the new ShareThis widget feature in open beta that enables you to track the shares that occur when a user copies and pastes your website’s URL or content. ShareThis adds a special #hashtag at the end of your address bar URL to keep track of where your content is being shared on the web, from Facebook, Twitter to emails, etc. When a user copies text within your site, a “See more: yourURL.com#SThashtag” will appear after the pasted text. Enable CopyNShare for your widget!

Thanks for this info. I had mine too similar to this url issues with extended / additional characters. So it was the Share This plugin after all..But, I was not using that plugin. I just grab a code in addthis.com and put that one in on my site. How should i get rid of it?

@collins86 – if you need help, please start your own thread rather than posting in other people’s threads. Your issue/question is not the same.

Collins86: might be better to use the plugin. This will give you more options, but also you will then know when there are updates to the AddThis code that you might not catch otherwise.

(edit: sorry wpyogi, I seem to keep stepping on your toes!)

Maybe AddThis also has this “feature”?

I sent a support request to sharethis.com and they sent an auto-reply saying that they would get back to me within 48 business hours.

I found a message on the ShareThis help forum from today which reads:

I tried to implement the code you suggested in your forums for disabling the copyNshare function on our site but it is not working. Could I bother you to take a look at it and help me out? It’s driving me nuts as I do a lot of copying out of this site and don’t want it to append the “see more + link”.

    VERY VERY nice thread, people!

Nice research… excellent info sharing… and great contributions!!

Honestly.. I have a tear in my eye, folks.

    Great work πŸ™‚

@wpyogi – I actually share the same issue with @charlesmtl1. And FYI I already posted a thread two days ago regarding this issue and no replies yet from that. http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-url-issues-1
So i was just trying to get a hint here and hopefully get a fix.

@bill, CharlesMTL1 – thanks for these info. ill take note on that too..

    Very funny, Josh πŸ™‚

You’re right Charles, it is also a ‘feature’ in AddThis, but it can be disabled in the plugin options. Something you might want to mention to the ShareThis people to put the pressure on πŸ˜‰

Sorry, my mistake. Since it appears that this issue is related to the plugin, it should really be on that plugins forum here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/share-this

If need be, please start a new thread there and reference this thread as appropriate.

EDIT- yes, Josh – aw LOL! and Charles, no problem at all :).

I’ll join the “share this” list for removal of this option πŸ˜‰

@wpyogi… congrats, my friend!! You have certainly put your time in here!! I’m sure you will be of great use to the community here!!

Thank you everyone for helping me get this far. I had actually tried to Google the issue before I came here but that was useless. I’m hoping that other people with the same issue will find this thread once it gets indexed by the search engines.

Bill: That is my plan. πŸ™‚
