Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of work. Or use whatever developer tool is available in your web browser.
Ive used the firebug plugin put cont figure out the actual pixal size! i am very new to this whole thing sorry if im a pain. How to i use firebug to actually fine size of the widget area?

thank you andrew. The size stated is the size of the image i made. I THINK the widget size is bigger than my image because there is space between the main content and the widget i was hoping to fine the actual size so i can make my widget fill more of the page so it looks better. I might just make some images in different sizes and see if i can find out through trail and error. Thanks for the help i really appreceate it.

Firebug finds the width out for you.
ive only downloaded firebug a couple of weeks ago how do i use it to find the widget size?

Go to your webpage and right click on your widget. Then select ‘Inspect element’ and in Firebug’s toolbar you should be able to see the webpage’s HTML structure. Click around in the structure until you select the widget element you want. Then, on the webpage, it should show the dimensions of the element
