  • Did you follow the steps here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

Have you changed the name servers to Dreamhost? That can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate.

but now I thought that I wouldn’t have to transfer the blog to wordpress.org?

If i change the nameservers from wordpress.com is this reversible? I fear that doing this all may be more that my capacity level and I don’t want to make changes that are permanent

You need to change the name servers to point to your new hosts.

so i changed the nameservers. after this do I ever need to use wordpress.com or do I still make changes and posts there using my new login info provided by dreamhost?

No, your DH login won’t work on .COM and any changes there won’t show on your new site at all. The nameservers take a while to take effect, so don’t panic if it looks like nothing has changed yet :).

No, you don’t have to use WordPress.com anymore.

ok so my nameservers are pointing to DreamHost, and I logged in from the dreamhost wordpress login, and I still don’t have the different cusomization access

    What am I doing wrong?

when I type in wordpress.com it takes me right to my blog where I would write and submit posts

Nameservers can take up to 72 hours to propagate fully. DH may be able to give you a temporary URL – or they may already have done that. They have good support, so you could ask them directly – though one of their support team regularly checks these forums as well.

Also, if you did the install on DH, did you then import your content from your old site?

    Thread Starter chroniclesofkate.com

    (@chroniclesofkatecom)

Im not sure if I did, under the domains it has mine listed and says that it is fully hosted

How do i make sure that i imported everything?

I think I messed up. I typed in my blog in the url and to my surprise my downloaded wordpress popped up and asked me to create a username and password, which I did, butafter submitting and seeing that my page was completely gone, I realized that maybe I should have used the same login info from the dreamhost end? If this is the case is their a way to fix this because my page is down now and unviewable from both ends. If I login using the DH login I can get to my dashboard but when I preview post, their is nothing. What to do? I feel like I am so close!

Your DreamHost login is not the same as your new WordPress site login – so you did the right thing in creating a new one – it’s probably not viewable because the nameservers have not fully propagated (as mentioned earlier, that can take 72 hours), and though the nameservers are now set to the right, the domain name does still show your old site. But you should open a ticket with DH, so they can check and see that everything is set correctly there.

No, you don’t have to use WordPress.com anymore.

If i don’t have to go to wordpress.com anymore to post where do I write posts?
