index.php code changes not reflected

    I am trying to update the index.php of my theme but for some reason the changes are not reflected in the site. If I amend header.php, the changes do appear on the site. Does WordPress cache the page?

    WordPress doesn’t cache – but double check your browser, site and server — though if other changes are showing okay, that seems like it’s probably not the problem. Are you sure the page you are changing/viewing is using index.php? (Hopefully you are making these kinds of changes in a child theme?)

    Thanks for responding. After about another hour I realised the theme was referring to a page.php file. I am very new to wordpress and am currently trying to grasp the terminology. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of child themes. I may look at that this evening.
