Sticky post doesn't remain at the top (25 posts)

I've got a single sticky post on my blog, with instructions on how to read/use the blog for the technically challenged folks who may read it. This morning after writing a new post, the sticky post moved down like it would if it was a regular post. I double checked that the new post wasn't set as sticky, and the sticky post was still set as sticky... everything looks correct.

It maybe a plugin conflict, deactivate all plugins and see if it works

You could always hand code the "sticky" feature into the template files.

If it is not a plugin conflict, try switching to the default theme to see if it is a theme conflict.

Changing the theme to default has no effect.

I deactivated all plugins except sticky and posted a test msg, all is well. I then activated all of them one by one, all is still well with all of them activated. *shrug* I'm not sure WTF happened...

then one of your plugin must have modified/overwrite the query that wp-sticky generate.

Ok I wrote a new post this morning. It was the first thing I did when I opened my browser (FF 2.0.0.6). My browser is configured to clear all cookies/cache upon exit btw. After I clicked publish, there it was... right on the top again.

I've been copying, deleting, and re-creating the sticky after each new post to keep it on the top as a work-around.

    I'm using the following plugins:

    WP-Sticky
    WP-Print
    WP-Email
    WP-Cache
    Google Sitemaps
    Audio Player
    Anarchy Media Player
    Ajax Referer Fix

Right after the post, I wrote another one that included a video, and it was posted underneath the sticky post as it should be.

erm? you solve it or u found the conflicting plugin?

Neither... the issue is there, but it is sporadic. It happens sometimes, then sometimes it doesn't (such as this morning).

try playing around with the deactivation of some plugins to find out the conflicting one.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you... I tried the default template and the issue still exists. I can try deleting/reposting to see if it kicks it back in, though.

I'm not sure it's a pluggin issue. One would imagine if it was, it would be a consistent problem once the pluggin as activated. It's not a consistent problem (for me). You might try replicating my setup to experience the problem for yourself. You would know better than I would what's going on with it.

Installed the plugin yesterday... same issues as all stated above. Yesterday it worked, today it didn't.

I was experiencing this problem with WP 2.2.3 and WP-Sticky 1.00, and here is the cause I found. Around line 98 in wp-sticky.php you'll see this:

    $content = "($wpdb->sticky.sticky_status = 2 AND $wpdb->sticky.sticky_status IS NOT NULL) DESC, DATE_FORMAT($wpdb->posts.post_date,'%Y-%m-%d') DESC, ($wpdb->sticky.s\ticky_status = 1 AND $wpdb->sticky.sticky_status IS NULL) DESC, DATE_FORMAT($wpdb->posts.post_date,'%T') DESC";

This seems to be placing all Announcements at the top no matter what, but ony placing Sticky posts at the top of any given day. This would mean that to make a post REALLY sticky (i.e. always at the top no matter what), you'd have to make it an Announcement. I'm guessing this is intentional, but it also seems undocumented.

This is "by design". I was in a conversation with Lester on another matter and mentioned this confusion.

Announcements: stay at the top always

Sticky: Stay at the top for the day

    for a complete dicussion see:

Announcements: stay at the top always

Sticky: Stay at the top for the day

That seems completely backwards to me. A sticky post should be sticky, dang it! An announcement should be the short term since that's all it is... an announcement.

forum sticky will stay on top of that forum only, announcement will appear throughout the forums. I got my concept from there.
