1) You need a plugin that allows you to set different numbers of posts for archives or home page. I’ve used one like this on my own site before — Custom Post Limits: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-limits/
2) You can disallow comments on specific pages or posts by editing each page or post and unchecking the Allow Comments box.

Dear Caroline,
I’m working with wordpress and your beautiful theme for about 2 weeks now and proudly 😉 managed to do some changes (child-theme,using firebug, fonts, colors, direct links, background, s.o.) , lots of the stuff that is already explained in the other really helpful support-topics.
Still I have some ideas that I don’t know how to implement:
1. I limited the number of circles/posts on the start-page to 6 (Settings > Reading in my Dashboard). I created a post-category named “projects” an created 10 posts within this category. Now if I open this sub-page “projects” to get an overview on all the existing “project”-posts the number of circles/posts is also limited to 6, like the start-page. What do i have to implement/change to show here all the projects (10 and more)? How can i edit this number of circles separately?
2. Is there a way to control on which of the pages/posts – sides the ‘comment “+” button’ and the ‘widget “+” button’ is shown? E.g: I created a new page that shows my contact-information and I don’t want to have the “comment-button” here, because it doesn’ make sense. Can I inactivate the buttons for single pages/posts or can I just delete it for all my “pages” / all my “posts”?
