   this plug-in requires the input of the old permalink structure, however my permalinks are currently set to the default and i do not know the code for this. can anyone please help?

   You don't have to migrate default permalinks.

   They *always* work, regardless of what you currently have set at Options -> Permalinks

   Ultra,

   Default is
   http://www.your_domain.com/?p=123 or http://www.your_domain.com/wordpress/?p=123
   ...something like that.

   this might work better for you:
   http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jadedcoder-sticky-permalinks/

   But it's a beta version and needs some work.

   the jadecoder-sticky-permalinks just gives me a fatal error when i try to activate it, unfortunately i cannot leave a comment about that, it just directs me to a tag cloud...

   so, links to my website will not be broken if i change the permalink structure from default to something else anyway?

   Correct. The default ones should always work, regardless of your "pretty" permalink structure.
