I'm researching the possibility of using WordPress to drive a content site for a client. Might you have a favorite example or two of a site where WP is being used but doesn't look like a traditional blog site? Thanks.

One big one that I know of is the Ford auto shows site. If you look in the source code at the head section you'll see the the generator is wordpress 2.1.3.

how about the news site for the city of Barga In Tuscany Italy ?

I should have more of these soon as I'm starting to use WordPress now instead of Blogger... but if you want a lot of "Blogger" sites that don't look like blogs I can post plenty of them.
And, like I said, I will keep this thread bookmarked and post to it when I have some WordPress examples.
Thanks folks. I've seen the Ford site - pretty good. Barganews gives me a Forbidden error.
Hmm check out my website also and tell me if it looks like blog or not :)

Check out a site we just deployed using WordPress as the CMS and Blog engine. It doesn't look like a WP-based project, we made use of the insert pages as components, so the client had a very easy method to update components of a page without breaking any of the layout code. This is a great *free* way for users to operate a pretty solid CMS engine based site using WordPress.
Notice the site is still in development (i.e. filler text)
designbyariel, I really like that design. It's crisp, clean, simple, and very easy to navigate.
Heres one of the better sites I have seen based around a WP engine:
Wow, that is a good site newmomsforum. Wouldn't have thought it was WordPress.
Yep, I think it has been really customised but its still based on good old wordpress :)

P.S should be working now ... give it a try and let me know what you think. It all hangs around the nautica-magazine theme by Max Limpag; http://max.limpag.com/2006/08/21/nautica-magazine-wordpress-theme-webzines/
but with a bit of tweaking here and there
www.barganews.com looks like a blog to me...
in my opin. if there's just a content area and a right hand side sidebar -- its bloggish, definitely.
newmomsforum, do you know what theme they used for perthnorg? I'm particularly impressed with their story submission page and they have the only user profiles that has additional demographics that i've seen using wordpress.
blu3mupp3t,
nice example -- that does look nothing like a blog.
Mrwolf, I think the functionality is driven mainly by coding and not by theme. :)
thanks newmomsforum, i wish i knew how they did it. they hav a couple of features that i'd really love to implement on my blog
One of my sites - http://878studios.com
Ghana Music is one of the best news/media sites that utilizes WordPress as both CMS and blogging tool:
Best viewed under FireFox 2.x
The number of site visits increased after switching from Joomla/Xoops, and visitor's feedback is now much greater.
WordPress is the future platform for designing multi-purpose, user interactive web sites ;)
Just a small point ... shouldn't there be a link on the front page of all of these sites linking back to the wordpress site?

the only ones that I can see from all the sites on this page actually stating that they are using wp are:

No, it shouldn't.
www.nectardesign.com (biggest customization i've done yet (with the help of the wonderful "chait" of WP support forum "fame") with WP to make a "non-bloggy" site)
www.anubismarketing.com (though it has bloggy elements, of course)
ladydelaluna , nectardesign is very nice!
CNN's Political Ticker and Parts are Wordpress.
arcater - thanks!
I hope this does not come across as naive or hypercritical, I am asking because I really do want to know. What is the point of using Wordpress if your goal is to NOT have it look like a blog? Why not use some other template/cms or do the whole thing from scratch? Is there some advantage to using Wordpress in a non-blog setting that makes it worth the extra coding and what not? If so, what is that? Please explain. Thx.
I made my website with an attempt at making it look not like a blog.
