Has anyone tried using the new Google Map embed feature?

It seems to break the visual editor. Had to switch my profile to not use it in order to edit the post.

I'm thinking of using WP as a CMS, for a site that will use a lot of Google Maps, so I'd be really interested to know if the new embed feature (http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/annc/embed_maps.html) works in WP.

I just played with it and it works great, however after you PUBLISH the page or post do NOT go back to to edit your post or page as it will not show anything.

You could try disabling WYSIWYG for WP and see if that works better.

Yeah, disabling works. I've heard similar problems with MS Live's editor also. I'm not using the latest WP, but I don't think that's the issue. Upgrading tonight, we'll see.

You could try the GoogleMapper plugin

It seems to be fine on 2.2.2

    Heads up...

GoogleMapper plugin required PHP 5 at least. If your like me and using a PHP 4.X version it won't work.

Is it worth upgrading to PHP 5 or will it cause additional issues with WP?

I took the plunge and upgraded you PHP to 5.xx and all is working fine.

Google Mapper works, now I just have to figure out how to add markers. :)

Can I ask how you disable WYSIWYG for WP, so I can once again edit one of my pages I've got Google Maps embedded in?

    Thanks!

In your admin panel click on Users --> Your Profile, and there you should see a "Use the visual editor when writing" check box. Uncheck it and save the profile.

Brilliant! Thanks very much! I'd looked just about everywhere else but there!

    Cheers!

I was having problems with iframes (google maps) in posts and pages. Initially, I could place the iframe in the code and the page or post would appear ok. But, I could not go back and edit the posts or pages, because the page content area would just go blank as the iframe tried to load in the page content editor. Temporary solution - go to users, and disable the WYSIWYG editor. I found a better solution that allows me to use WYSIWYG though...use Mozilla Firefox...get the add-on called Xinha...when you go to create or edit your posts/pages, just right click in the code/page content and start Xinha. It works like a charm and has alot more features than the default wordpress WYSIWYG editor. Hope this helps.
