Any way to refresh images in carousel view without changing names?

I am in the process of enabling higher-resolution images on my site. Moving from 900px 72ppi to 2000px 300ppi. I use Jetpack on my self-hosted site and am using Carousel (but have photon disabled).

I understand Carousel is using the WP cdn/photon anyway. I am finding that refreshed images are bigger in the carousel view but not high-resolution/retina. I do not want to change the image names and ‘break’ seo and links.

Is there anyway to force refresh the data? What it I deactivate and reactivate Jetpack? Or create a new wp.com id to associate it with??
