  • Horrid. The splash page is completely redundant and is ruining your search engine signature.

What do you mean by that?

What I think Root was trying to say… but couldnt find the words to do it decently or explain why… Is that if you dont have a decent amount of content on your homepage. It wont get indexed properly.

I think you should lose the landing page have the first page of the site be

yes, loose the splash page — theyre useless

Jeez. People want explanations as well. Who do they think I am frikkin Wittingenstein?

1)get rid of the splash page. Why would I need to click to enter your site. not good really.
2)why not put the recent news on the first page. makes more sense to me.

The splash page brings the focus of what the site is about and is like leading you inside the house. I really like that part of it.

However, the images are not the best quality. I see they are JPG, did you save them as a 12? If not, I recommend that.

Other than that, I like it. It’s simple and does wha it’s supposed to.

Hmmm… If you really are a “Webdesigner” as stated in your profile – you should know better than that πŸ™‚

A lot of sites have splash pages, yes they add more mork to the user who’s browsing, but it doesn’t mean you can’t put one.

nobody said he “cant” .. they said he ought not to.

the reasons for not having spash pages far outweigh the reason(s) for having one — if there is more than one reason to even be had, since they serve NO purpose what so ever.

In other words, theyre useless fluff that makes users click more. And had already been alluded to, google detests them.

If thats your gig, fine. Lots of people dont like flash either and call it useless fluff. I happen to like it, and use it.

    Its just opinion.

Well it is not opinion that if you use a splash page your whole Google rating will tank. πŸ™‚ But a lot of *designers* are impervious to performance. That is why they are designers.

The front page of the site could do that just as well, and wouldn’t leave the reader pointlessly clicking to see the page that they wanted to see in the first place.

Splash pages should be confined to the past where they belong.

Next, the front page. Well, all in all, not bad, but the most obvious thing on the front page is a massive sponser link designed to take me *away* from your site. I know it’s nice to have a sponsor but that really is over the top. It’s right in the middle of the page!

Next, just an observation on one of your entries –

    August LHCC Draw Winners

It’s just a one line entry saying that the winners are listed on another page. But there’s not even a link to that page in the entry! The link is elsewhere on your menu or something. Why not make it easy for people, turn that sentance clickable. Better yet, tease the readers in by at least giving some more info.

Seems to be a lot of controversy regarding splash pages these days. My opinion is that you don’t need a splash page because it is linked to a welcome page, which basically serves the same purposes. We don’t need to be welcomed twice πŸ˜‰

Why is the background color blue? : ( Why don’t you get a shade that’s closer to that purple you used in the image?

    Edit —
Nevermind. My Mac showed this ugly blue color until it loaded the entire way.

Splash pages .. what are you looking for? Form or function?

There is not much controversy about splash pages. This is not Geocities circa 1998. The only things missing here are the animated gif for the mailbox and the Comic Sans MS. πŸ™‚
